4. For Eternity

This song is a celebration of the gift of grace: the ‘love of the Father, revealed in the son’.

Only by his grace are we saved:’you have opened a new start, with your saving grace’, ‘Jesus, you have made a way, through your sacrifice’.

As Ephesians 2-8 puts it: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

God has indeed taken our weakness and ‘turned it into strength’. As Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12-10: “For the sake of Christ then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

As Ezekiel 37-4 tells us, God has taken our dry bones, bringing them back to life: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life’.

Thanks to the love of Jesus, we can look forward to an eternity of rest, not by our works, but by the grace of God: ‘And I heard a voice from heaven, saying: “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on'”. “Yes,” says the Spirit, “so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.”‘ Revelation 14-13

Through Jesus, we have conquered the grave for eternity, as 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 confirms: ‘O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.’
